The Human Care initiative at YLM provides
relief to impoverished communities in the border region. YLM serves many families
that struggle with economic hardships and lack adequate food,
clothing, and housing. With the help of donations from around the
country and through the services of the
Orphan Grain Train, YLM
strives to meet some of these needs while proclaiming the saving
message of the Gospel.
Food & Clothing Distribution
YLM distributes clothes and food weekly, as long
as supplies are available. Distributions typically take place after
services on Sunday, although special distributions are also held for
emergencies and at various times throughout the year.

Hot
Meal Program
YLM volunteers prepare hot Mexican plates every
Monday – Friday in the kitchen. About 100 plates are served every day
and sold for $.75 each. Most of the food is donated through the Orphan
Grain train or purchased by YLM. The program’s main goal is to provide
food for needy people while welcoming them to the mission campus in El
Paso and showing them God’s love.
Thrift Store
YLM operates a thrift store every weekday. All
the items that are sold come from donations collected around the country. The store is
staffed by volunteers from our congregation and other congregations
around El Paso. This thrift store is another great way to bring people
to YLM’s mission campus and provide for those in need.
School Supplies
At the beginning of the school year and around
Christmas, youth and volunteers put together school kits to give to
needy children. School kits include items such as backpacks,
notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, rulers, pencil
sharpeners, erasers, etc. These packages help families that may not be
able to buy all the necessary school materials for their children.

Christmas Toys
Throughout the year YLM collects toy donations
to be used at Christmastime. Many families that come to our mission
churches simply cannot afford the luxury of Christmas gifts. YLM saves
up these toy donations to make sure that every child that comes to our
mission churches receives the gift of a toy as well as the message of
Jesus' birth, God’s gift to us.

Medical Clinics
Many people in this area are faced with the
problem of inaccessibility to medical services. YLM Servant Events
come at various times throughout the year to perform free medical
check-ups and eyeglass clinics at the mission churches in Mexico.

House Construction
Adequate housing is a significant need for many
people in the border region. YLM has begun working with Servant Events
and donors from around the country to meet this need. Servant Events
repair houses and, when possible, build new rectangular houses for
needy families in our mission congregations. We hope to do much more
in coming years. This aspect of the ministry is an excellent way to
show the people that we care about them and their circumstances. It
also reinforces the message of God’s love and His promise to provide
for all of His children.

Community Assistance
YLM receives donations of many items that help
sustain the various aspects of its ministry. Occasionally, items are
donated that we do not have a specific need for and we seek to share
these resources with other agencies in our community. Often, medical
equipment, school desks, and medicines are given to schools,
orphanages, hospitals, and a jail in Mexico so that they can better
serve those with whom they work. These connections remind us that we
are all one in the body of Christ and we accomplish the most for His
honor and glory when we work together and share the gifts with which
He has blessed us.
